Rapport just means “commonality of perspective” it means you are in sync with the other person with whom you are presenting your ideas to. If you do not learn how to develop a rapport with your customers you will never sell as much as you could. This goes for brick and mortar companies and especially for people who are selling things on the internet. No matter where the sales pitch is being made people have a general distrust in things being offered to them. Claims in the past have been overstated, they felt they didn’t get their money’s worth. Now they are gun shy and you are trying to sell them.
Having rapport with someone in a nutshell means that they like you, they feel a connection. There are three kinds of people that we like. First of all there are people who are like us. People who share common ideas, beliefs, backgrounds, and hobbies we tend to enjoy spending time with. How can you use this to build rapport with your customers?
The second type of person that we like are people who are like who we want to be. These are the people that we look up to or admire. We want to be like them and that is a very fact way to build rapport. This could also be stated that they have something we want. What is it that you have that your customers need that makes their life empty without it?
Finally the third type of person that we like is the people who like us back. It goes without saying that being on the same wavelength with people is a reciprocal process. When we are liked back we tend to like a person. There is an old saying that says “To have great friends, be a great friend”. What are you bringing to the table as a business that your customers can see and feel like you like them back, how are you going the extra mile for them?
Building rapport and trust is the key to growing your business this year. If you want to be bigger, more profitable and better at what you do then start by learning how to be more effective at building rapport for your customers. If you do this I can assure you that your sales will increase, your profits will grow and you will be more well thought of as a business owner than you were in the past.
